Talks that Matters: Spaces to Take Care of Yourself

On 20 October we had the opportunity to hold a meeting at Matter Barcelona in which we reflected with architects and interior designers on the new dimension that the bathroom has taken in recent months. At the meeting we had the participation of some professionals very close to the brand such as Jorge Herrera or Pepa Casado from Futurea.

Jorge presented the inspirations and process behind the development of Calma and Tempo bathtubs . We talked to Pepa about the importance of bathing at a time when self-care has become another form of therapy.

"(Confinement) has been a vast social experiment, revealing that we need to focus on our homes as places we consciously and actively inhabit, rather than "dropping in" at the end of a busy day or week, without concern for the impact it has on our physical and mental health". (Ilse Crawford)

Thanks to the participation of the different design and architecture studios, we were able to see how design has changed the perspective on working in the bathroom. As was emphasised during the session, "the crisis has highlighted the deficiencies of these facilities (bathrooms), which are often designed as medically safe but which feel inhumane and sterile". Through their projects Carla Navas and Victor Molina of WIT Architects, demonstrated how the bathroom is now an essential element in the house and in public spaces, not only as a space for hygiene, but also for personal wellbeing and calm, and that water is one of the most everyday but powerful therapies.

Javier Verdugo from CM4 Arquitectos will take us into the new sense of luxury through homes designed to live every day, to enjoy and which understand that architecture and interior design are just another tool to achieve this wellbeing.

Finally, Natali Canas from El Equipo Creativo invited us on a journey through the creativity, colours and light of the Mediterranean, thanks to several of her projects located mainly in Barcelona, which give priority to local materials and designs with a made in Spain brand.

In this new context, we talk about how the bathtub is elevated to the category of luxury object related to the new concept of wellbeing, which is why we can perceive a change in its proposals for others with a high quality design. Bathtubs that speak of me time and respond to a need for the bathroom as a sanctuary and the rituals we perform in it. This is precisely the starting point of Calma and Tempo collections, designs conceived for daily ritual and contemplation, to save time instead of wasting it.
