Tips for thoroughly disinfecting the bathroom

Keeping the house clean when we spend the most time in it is important. But if there is one room we should pay special attention to, it is the bathroom. It is for many reasons, but above all because it is already highly exposed to the proliferation of viruses and bacteria under normal circumstances.

So now, with the threat of the coronavirus and thinking about our health and that of our people, it is well worth not only cleaning the bathroom, but disinfecting it thoroughly. But how to do it? Let's look at it.

What do I clean it with?

There's no need to go crazy looking for special products. Something as common as bleach is perfect for disinfection. Just dilute a spoonful in a glass of water. With that mixture you can spray the surfaces or wipe them with a damp cloth and let it work before rinsing with another clean cloth.

You don't have any bleach? Ammonia diluted in water can also be used. And in the specific case of the coronavirus, and as long as you have neither lye nor ammonia, degreasing products can momentarily save you from trouble, since the virus has a protective layer that is weakened by these sprays.

Bayonet or paper?

To clean, obviously, better a cloth that you can then wash. Of course, if you're using a solution, soak it in it every time you make a pass over a surface. To rinse, use a different cloth which you should also rinse under the tap after each wipe.

Another option is to use disposable paper, which is much more hygienic. But of course, you can only use it to dry the surfaces.

Don't leave a single hole

Microorganisms can hide anywhere. If they have the right conditions, they can survive on surfaces for hours, some can even multiply. Therefore, if you really want to disinfect your bathroom, you should not leave a single corner unattended.

What does this mean? It means that not only will you need a cloth, but to disinfect the toilet and taps you will need brushes and brushes that allow you to reach every nook and cranny. And it also means that there can be no 'forgotten' surface. You need to clean everything from the mirror and tiles to the fittings, sockets, light switches, door handles and even the shower screen handles, if you have them.

Above all, protection

If the bathroom has a window, open it. Ventilation also helps prevent the growth of microorganisms and the moisture that benefits them so much to proliferate. It will also protect you from the possibility that the fumes from the chemicals you use can cause mild irritation.

But there's another important issue: you should wear gloves. It's best if they're disposable. Your skin will appreciate it and you also avoid contact with surfaces that may be contaminated.

Confinement and circumstances require extreme hygiene measures in the bathroom, and you should do so if you want to take care of yourself. And there's no excuse for that because now more than ever we have time to eliminate all kinds of viruses, bacteria and germs from our homes.
