Jorge Herrera, with a professional trajectory of more than 20 years marked by awards such as the Red Dot Design Award, the IF Design Award and the Good Design Award, tackles his second collaboration with Sanycces in the spirit of interpreting the Mediterranean, the brand’s hallmark. This has given rise to the Duna collection of bathtubs and bathroom accessories.
Jorge Herrera’s design studio focuses on timeless design and quality over speed and quantity. he designer looks for the essence of objects and reflects on what aspects can be eliminated without affecting their function.
‘It’s not an involution, it’s a lot of thinking and simplifying until the design works. That is an important part of our work,’ explains Herrera.
His motto is to look for accurate solutions that have that essence that allows us to connect with the product. Thus, the designer seeks naturalness where the small detail makes the difference, the simple solution.
The Duna bathtub is an example of how the Mediterranean character is interpreted in bathtub design. Fluid geometry and matt texture are key features of this collection. The bathtub design focuses on form and materiality, and the Ofuro model, inspired by Japanese culture, is an example of how functionality can be combined with beauty. It is a more compact and taller model that allows bathing in a seated position.
“Observation is a never-ending source of inspiration, and if I had to define the Mediterranean character of this collection, I would appeal to the welcoming, simple and pleasant forms in which material and color are a very important part of the object,” explains Herrera.
For Jorge Herrera, beauty is found in functionality and ergonomics.
“Beauty is finding beauty in functionality. And in terms of design, this is because even a screw is beautiful. Our motto is beauty, functionality and ergonomics,” he says.
