Resin or porcelain shower trays, which one to choose?

Choosing the right shower tray is much more than a question of aesthetics. Nowadays it is possible to choose between different materials and designs that allow us to create the ideal atmosphere for our bathroom.

We are going to focus on two very different ones: porcelain and resin. After learning more about their characteristics, you will surely find it easier to make up your mind.

Porcelain: an economical solution

Porcelain shower trays are the traditional ones, made of the same material as sanitary ware. Their greatest advantage is their price, in fact, they are the cheapest on the market. Therefore, they are a good option if you don't want to spend a lot. An added advantage is that they are very easy to clean and withstand chemicals well.

What you will have to bear in mind is that this type of shower tray is manufactured in standard sizes, so it may be difficult to find one that fits exactly the space you have. They are shower trays that adapt well to more classic styles.

Resin: light and versatile

Resin shower trays have nothing to do with porcelain ones. They are made from polyester resins and mineral fillers, with a lacquer, paint or gel coat finish with antibacterial properties.

What does all this mean? Firstly, it is possible to find them in an infinite number of finishes, from smooth textures to others imitating stone or slate. And they are also manufactured in very different colours and tones.

Another big difference compared to porcelain is the variety of shapes and sizes. However, in the event that they do not adapt well to the space, they can be made to measure or, which is much more convenient, they can be cut to the desired size or shape. In short, they are very versatile shower trays that are easy to customise.

These are not the only advantages. Resin trays are warmer to the touch than porcelain and their surface is non-slip, making them much safer. They are also less bulky and can be repaired in case of impact or scratches. Of course, they are more expensive.

So which shower tray is better?

Each has its advantages, but new materials are always more attractive and functional. It is true that resin shower trays are considerably more expensive than porcelain ones, however, you can find simpler models in which the price difference is not exorbitant. Taking into account the use they are going to have, the investment will be worth it.

However, beware of bargains because not all resin shower trays are the same. It is advisable to pay attention to the quality to avoid surprises. Otherwise, these shower trays can be kept in perfect condition for many years.
