Creativity, Design, and Flavor at “A Creative Tailor Talk”

Last September, at the iconic La Casa de la Luz by SIMON in Madrid, an event took place that fused three creative worlds in a unique conversation. Organized by Sanycces, “A Creative Tailor Talk” was the chosen setting for the presentation of the new Dedal faucet collection, designed by the renowned José Manuel Ferrero from estudiHac.

The round table, moderated by journalist Pilar Marcos Arango, brought together Paul García de Oteyza and Caterina Pañeda,  founders of the tailoring firm  Oteyza; Mario Padial, master chocolatier; and José Manuel Ferrero himself. A conversation that revealed the common ground between fashion, chocolate-making, and industrial design.

Stories that inspire: the key to soulful design

During the event, José Manuel Ferrero emphasized the importance of finding the “story” behind each project. It’s not enough for a product to be functional and aesthetically appealing; it must tell a story that makes it unique. According to Ferrero, curiosity, observation, persistence, and time are the pillars upon which any valuable creation is built.

‘Since I was a child I have always been a fan of Mr. Willy Fog, he was a character that influenced me, when I was a child I was with my father in the mechanic workshops, putting on screws, things, I am from a textile area like Ontinyent and all that made me gradually become interested in the world of fashion, but seen from the way they make these presentations and stagings. How from a small story they generate a collection of objects. I thought about how I, as an industrial designer, can transfer it to the product, transmitting textiles and tailoring to my products’ José Manuel Ferrer, estudi{h}ac.

From Oteyza, Paul García de Oteyza and Caterina Pañeda shared their evolution from a more conventional career to a more sensory experience:

“There came a point in our lives when we were working for a multinational company, and as a translator and interpreter, we sought a more sensory experience, working with our hands and growing in a more spiritual and creative way.” They also explained how their approach to fashion merges tradition and avant-garde: “We realized that we needed to create garments that breathe tradition but look toward the future, garments that, without realizing it, create an ideology, a code of beauty.”

For his part, Mario Padial spoke about the art behind chocolate-making:

“The secret of our business is respecting craftsmanship.” He added that chocolate, besides being a delicious material, offers unique versatility: “Chocolate is, as far as I know, the only edible raw material that allows you to apply all plastic and mechanical arts. You can turn it, drill it, sand it, polish it, mold it… Chocolate is a raw material that lets you do anything.”

Dedal Collection, the Star of the Event

The Dedal faucet collection for Sanycces, inspired by the precision and distinctive character that Ferrero brings to each of his works, combines aesthetics and functionality with a carefully woven narrative. Each element of the collection reflects the value of time, observation, and attention to detail—concepts that Ferrero and his fellow panelists shared as the keys to achieving success in any creative discipline.
