Bathtub or shower? The eternal struggle

It's one of those questions that's hard to answer. Why? Among other things, because each person has his or her own likes and needs, because every bathroom is different and because both baths and showers have their advantages and disadvantages. Do you have any doubts? Let's try to solve them.

Advantages and disadvantages of the shower

Today's pace of life requires us to perform everyday tasks quickly, which is why many people make the switch from baths to showers. Why choose it?

  • Saving water: the shower not only saves time, but also water, and that is very important at a time when concern for the environment is constant. In a 5-minute shower, less than 100 litres of water are consumed, while filling a standard bathtub means at least 230 litres. As you can see, the difference is remarkable.
  • Space: many homes have small bathrooms. In them, a shower is perfect because it takes up much less space and, moreover, it is visually much lighter than a bathtub.
  • Style: there are square, rectangular and rounded showers in an infinite number of colours and materials. Whatever the style of the bathroom, it is very easy to find one that fits it without any problem, or even to make it personalized, if necessary.
  • Safety: accessing a shower is much easier than accessing a bath. When there is no difference in level, the risk of accidental falls is reduced. In addition, they are much more accessible for older people or people with some kind of mobility.

The biggest drawback is that showers do not help bathing the little ones. In addition, if the installation is not very well done and finished, the risk of leaks is greater than in the case of baths.

Advantages and disadvantages of the bathtub

A stressful day is finally over, and there's nothing like a relaxing bath to take your mind off things and recharge your batteries. With a bath, we can enjoy moments to take care of ourselves as we deserve. Is that your only advantage? Not really.

  • Spa area: with a bathtub with hydromassage we can have a small oasis at home. Maybe it is not to be used every day, but who doesn't like to indulge in a little whimsy once in a while.
  • Child care: we were already making progress. A bathtub is perfect for cleaning the little ones. But there is more. Everyone, without exception, enjoys bathing in a big way, and these are very special moments to share with those we love the most.
  • Charm: if you want a very special stay, there are bathtubs that are little wonders. Examples? Bathtubs with no vintage airs, straight lines for minimalist bathrooms and even built for more urban or eclectic environments...
  • Other uses: I'm sure you've had a water cut before. What to do? If you know in advance, a bathtub is very useful for storing water until the taps are operational again. And it is also a good ally when washing those objects or textiles of great volume or size.

Of course, you have to weigh up the disadvantages: they take up more space, they cost more water and they can also be more dangerous to access.

When it comes to deciding whether you prefer a bath or a shower, you will have to choose between functionality and comfort or aesthetics and relaxation. The best solution? If you have two bathrooms, put a bathtub in one and a shower in the other. And if you only have one, but it's a big one, you may not have to give up either one. Now all you have to do is take measurements and think about what kind of bathroom you want before choosing.
